SmarterMail is a mail and collaboration server from SmarterTools that businesses and hosting providers run on their own Windows and Linux servers. It's used by small businesses, large organizations and ISPs, and hosting companies that offer email to their own customers. This is the story of how SpamFoo became part of it.
The challenge
SmarterTools had relied on third-party antispam engines for years and wanted a replacement it could count on for the long term. It also wanted something SmarterMail had never had: a way to sort mail into groups like the large mail providers do.
Whatever they chose had to run on their customers' own servers, use few resources and keep working when the internet connection didn't.
SmarterTools chose SpamFoo because it runs on the customer's own server, uses few resources, and keeps mail data under the customer's control.
What we built together
SmarterMail's developers built the integration in a matter of days using the SpamFoo API.
- Email Classification for every SmarterMail customer at no extra cost
- Full SpamFoo, including antispam and Anti-Phishing, offered through SmarterTools
- User corrections sent from SmarterMail, so each mailbox learns from its user
- The SpamFoo dashboard, opened from inside SmarterMail with the right role for each person
"We're thrilled to bring our customers a powerful new classification engine with SpamFoo, giving them the tools they need to compete confidently with major email providers like Office 365."
The result
During the beta, SmarterMail customers reported fewer missed spam messages, few legitimate messages marked as spam, and accurate Email Classification, with no noticeable delay in mail delivery.
User feedback from SmarterMail servers trains the models directly, which improves accuracy for every SpamFoo customer over time.
