How SpamFoo Evaluates Messages

A multi-step pipeline that runs entirely on your mail server or messaging platform. Your messages never leave your network to be analyzed. Only anonymous learning data leaves, and only if you opt in.

Step 1

Message Arrives

When a message arrives, SpamFoo reads it once and keeps it in memory. The message never leaves your server to be analyzed.

Step 2

Quick Recall

If SpamFoo just sorted the same message for the same person, it reuses that answer right away. No need to think twice about something it already handled.

Step 3

Known Threats

Before doing anything fancy, SpamFoo checks a few quick lists:

  • Dangerous links against a regularly updated phishing list.
  • Impersonation when someone pretends to be a person inside your company.
  • Lookalike domains like "paypa1.com" that mimic well-known sites.

If anything matches, the email is flagged right away.

Step 4

Your Rules

You and your admins can set up allow and block lists for specific people, whole companies, or everyone. You can also write your own rules, like "always block messages with this subject line." These rules always win over the AI.

Step 5

Learning From Corrections

When you tell SpamFoo it got something wrong, it remembers what that message looked like. The next time something similar arrives, it uses your correction instead of starting from scratch . You can choose to share anonymous learning data with SpamFoo to make the system smarter for everyone, but the actual content of your messages is never sent unless you specifically opt in. Admins can turn this off entirely.

Step 6 - Core Analysis

AI Analysis

For anything not handled above, SpamFoo runs four small AI models on your server, no cloud required:

article

Content

Reads the words and meaning of the message
sensors

Signals

Checks the sender, headers, and whether the email is really from who it claims
merge

Decision

Combines everything into a spam or not-spam verdict
tab

Sorting

For safe messages, picks which inbox tab it belongs in

The Verdict

SpamFoo makes its call: spam or legitimate. For legitimate email, it also picks an inbox tab. Every decision comes with an explanation you can see in the admin dashboard: which step made the call and why.

Spam / Threat

Quarantined

Moved to the spam folder or quarantine, depending on your settings.

Legitimate

Sorted & Delivered

Delivered to the right inbox tab.
